Let Go and Live Expecting in the New Year!!

Samuel could remember the first time he had met Saul. Saul had been humble then.  That day Saul followed all the instructions God had given him through Samuel.  Over the years, Samuel had seen lots of changes in the anointed king.  He had grown into a great leader, but Samuel was not so proud of the leader Saul had become; in fact, Saul had been so disobedient that God had even rejected him as king.  It’s as if power had somehow gotten to his head.  The Lord did warn the people, before choosing a king, that the man to take the throne would do all manner of evil.  Samuel could remember God’s word like it was yesterday—“This is what the king who will reign over you will claim as his rights: He will take your sons and make them serve… He will take your daughters… the best of your fields” (1 Sam. 8:11-14). Samuel was so disheartened by all that had happened; especially over God’s rejection of Saul.  Samuel cried over the situation.   One day, God decided it was time to put an end to Samuel’s grieving: “[Samuel,] How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem.  I have chosen one of his sons to be King” (1Sam. 16:1); Samuel heard God’s word loud and clear, but he still had his doubts—“How can I go? If Saul hears about it, he will kill me” (16:2).

Have you ever wondered why it is that your life isn’t what it used to be for you?  Sometimes you hold on to what you know or what you’ve been, when God is saying that that was just a stepping stone to greater things—Move on!  Maybe God has rejected the thing you’ve been holding on to so dearly.  Those were tiny pebbles along the way, and God is saying—See, here I have laid before you a bigger stone; a rock to walk upon, which is much higher and so much greater than where you are currently standing.  You must come up higher.  There is so much that you do not know yet, but you will only attain if you let go of things I’ve already rejected.  I have new and better things to release to you, but first you must let go.

It’s a new year; a new season has begun.   Will you heed his call to come up a little higher?  Have you lost a career and have been pining over it? Maybe God has been whispering in your ears—Leave that career and launch your new business—Sounds ridiculous? That’s the problem; you’re thinking of human possibilities, “…but with God all things are possible” (Matt 19:26).  Maybe you’ve lost a boyfriend or a marriage–Or have you lost your sense of accomplishment?  Could it be that you are holding on to an image of yourself from the past, when God is saying I want to make you over, I want to make you brand new?

Samuel, you no longer have to mourn over what I have rejected, I have a new and better king for my people. Maybe you are filled with fear like Samuel, who was afraid that Saul would kill him.  Don’t be held back by logical thinking.  The Bible is clear in Isaiah 55:8-9 when it says “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.  As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”  We must try to remember those words.  We can’t think like God or think for Him, “His ways are past finding out!” (Rom. 11:33).Knowing all this, I’ll repeat, don’t be held back by logical thinking in this new season of your life.  The status quot will probably not work for you this time because it’s time to move up to higher ground.  I have new things to release to you in this season; a fresh anointing is coming your way.  So live expecting greater and better things here at The WELL.

Have a healthy and prosperous New Year!!!

As a born-again believer in Christ and having been brought up in the Church , I have seen and experienced the growing pains of living a sold-out and set apart life. As Christians we go through the same things that unbelievers do and many times it's even worse for us because we don't live according to the status quot. I'm also a Mom of two boys, 7 and 6 years old, and have been married to a preacher of the Gospel for nine years. Ministry, Matrimony, and Motherhood have given me a deeper perspective and a greater passion for reaching a world, where all three areas of life are seriously challenged. Check out my website at
